Thanksgiving Political Debate Fact Sheet

November 24th, 2009

As we gather together for Thanksgiving, we will likely be faced with political discussions about the affairs of the day with less-than-enlightened friends and family, Herewith, MCV PAC presents a cheat-sheet of fast facts for you to arm yourself for those inevitable knock-down, drag-out battles … er, cordial discussions.

The 9-page fact sheet is presented in a Q&A format as a downloadable PDF file and covers:
* Some Key Info
* Health Care
* National Debt
* Cap and Trade (Carbon Tax and Global Warming)
* Things You Can Do

Look at it …or… download a copy for your own use or handout …or… to file share with others

Bottom line: Analysis shows that your increased tax burden will be from $1300 to $2000 per year. The range depends on whether you are single or married and what forms Cap and Trade, forced healthcare purchases and penalties, and increased national debt/inflation ultimately take. Note that these are taxes that EVERYONE WILL PAY, since many of the taxes will be hidden in goods and services we purchase, or as taxes and fees collected by employers. Remember that the Obama-Biden campaign repeatedly stated that you would not pay one cent more in taxes if you earn less than $250,000 (or $200,000, or $150,000 depending on which speech it was).
Moreover, although allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire is not covered, Bush tax cuts to expire in 2010 will result in the loss of an additional one million jobs!

MCV PAC hopes this arms you for future debates, or at least puts all the facts you need in one convenient document and location. Thank you for all you do to preserve and spread Missouri’s conservative values.

MCV PAC wishes you and your family a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Taxes Pay for “Healthcare Reform”

November 21st, 2009

Below is a list of the tax increases Congress and the Administration have proposed to finance health care reform. This list includes taxes in the bill passed by the House of Representatives, the bill the Senate is currently debating, and other taxes mentioned as a possible way to pay for health care reform. Both house and senate taxes are listed since all are fair game in the final consolidated bill.

  1. An income surtax on taxpayers earning more than $500,000 a year,
  2. An excise tax on high-cost “Cadillac” health insurance plans that cost more than $8,500 a year for individuals or $21,000 for families,
  3. An excise tax on medical devices such as wheelchairs, breast pumps, and syringes used by diabetics for insulin injections,
  4. A cap on the exclusion of employer-provided health insurance without offsetting tax cuts,
  5. A limit on itemized deductions for taxpayers with a top income tax rate greater than 28 percent,
  6. A windfall profits tax on health insurance companies,
  7. A value-added tax, which would tax the value added to a product at each stage of production,
  8. An increase in the Medicare portion of the payroll tax to 3.4 percent for incomes great than $200,000 a year ($250,000 for married filers),
  9. An excise tax on sugar-sweetened beverages including non-diet soda and sports drinks,
  10. Higher taxes on alcoholic beverages including beer, wine, and spirits,
  11. A tax on individuals without acceptable health care coverage of up to 2.5 percent of their adjusted gross income,
  12. A limit on contributions to health savings accounts,
  13. An 8 percent tax on all wages paid by employers that do not provide their employees health insurance that satisfies the requirements defined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services,
  14. A limit on contributions to flexible spending arrangements,
  15. Elimination of the deduction for expenses associated with Medicare Part D subsidies,
  16. An increase in taxes on international businesses,
  17. Elimination of the tax credits paper companies take for biofuels they create in their production process–the so-called “Black Liquor credit,”
  18. Fees on insured and self-insured health plans,
  19. A limit or repeal of the itemized deduction for medical expenses,
  20. A limit on the Qualified Medical Expense definition,
  21. An increase in the payroll taxes on students,
  22. An extension of the Medicare payroll tax to all state and local government employees,
  23. An increase in taxes on hospitals,
  24. An increase in the estate tax,
  25. Increased efforts to close the mythical “tax gap,”
  26. A 5 percent tax on cosmetic surgery and similar procedures such as Botox treatments, tummy tucks, and face lifts,
  27. A tax on drug companies,
  28. An increase in the corporate tax on providers of health insurance, and
  29. A $500,000 deduction limitation for the compensation paid by health insurance companies to their officers, employees, and directors.

MCV PAC believes that instead of rushing through a badly conceived health care bill and raising taxes to pay for it, Congress should focus first on economic recovery by dropping all talk of tax increases and extending permanently the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. That is the only way to increase the incentives to work, save, invest, and take on new economic risk that will pull the economy out of the “Great Recession” and get unemployed Americans back to work.

Threatening the companies and high income earners that create jobs and employ so many of us is not going to instill confidence in our economy, our freedom to work, our investments, or the future of our country.

Good News for Conservatives

September 28th, 2009

Missouri Republican Party Chairman David Cole’s Message is Good News for Conservatives

Across the state, Missouri Republicans are on the ascendancy. Following the national trend, we are out-recruiting, out-fundraising, and out-messaging a Democratic Party that controls the White House and boasts super-majorities in Congress. More importantly, we are winning the national debate because we have effectively taken our fight to the local and state levels.

In the St Louis area, several prominent Republicans, including former Senators Norm Coleman (MN) and Jim Talent and Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder turned out this week in support of Ed Martin, who has formed an exploratory committee to challenge Russ Carnahan.

In western Missouri, two strong Republican candidates—Bill Stouffer and Vicky Hartzler—have announced their intention to run for the 4th Congressional seat, and others have expressed interest. One of these Republicans will face Ike Skelton, a long-time Congressman whose recent hard-left voting record and alliance with Nancy Pelosi puts him at odds with the people of his own district.

Roy Blunt , one of the candidates who is seeking to replace retiring GOP Senator Kit Bond, also received some good news this week. Despite a relentless barrage of false attacks from his likely opponent Robin Carnahan and her liberal allies, a recent Rasmussen poll shows the race tied. The poll also shows Missourians frustrated with the direction of the country and supportive of Roy Blunt’s conservative positions on the issues.

This is happening because Missourians understand what is at stake—and we are not willing to turn our lives and livelihoods over to the federal government. By presenting common-sense solutions and demonstrating responsible governance, Republicans are taking our country back.

Conservative Missouri Congressman Sam Graves Announces Listening Tour stops

August 17th, 2009

Northwest Missouri Rep. Sam Graves has announced several listening-tour stops around the 6th district as a part of his “Main Street Matters Listening Tour”.  According to a press release on his website, Rep. Graves will be discussing the issues that Congress has dealt with this session, including the Stimulus, Cap and Trade and Health Care Reform.  As Ranking Member on the House Small Business Committee Graves has a particular interest in how the Obama/Pelosi policies will affect small businesses in Northwest Missouri.

Graves town hall meetings will most likely prove to be less exciting than the townhalls that have dominated the news cycle lately.   This is mainly due to the fact the Sam Graves represents his constituents and their values and has consistently voted against the liberal policies that the citizens of his district strongly oppose. Graves has voted against all of the government bailouts, he voted against Cap and Trade and has vigerously opposed the Democrats healthcare and their “public option” that would lead to the end of private insurance.  The list of stops on the listening-tour can be found at http://www.house.gov/list/press/mo06_graves/cont.shtml.

Maybe Missouri’s Claire McCaskill could learn from Graves, if you actually represent your voters they don’t feel like they must yell at you in order to be heard.

The 6th District is very privileged to have a strong representative who stands up for them in Washington.  If you attend any of these listening-tour stops, please take time to thank Mr. Graves for his consistent support of Conservative values.

Below is a video showing Rep. Graves defending small business on House Floor last month.

Forks In The Road

March 20th, 2009

Questions are arising as to whether Barack Obama is really the one running the Democrat party. He signed a trillion dollar spending bill he did not read; he gives great speeches….as long as someone writes the words for him to read -literally; he publicly turns to attorneys to finds out what is in HIS executive order; he signs onto massive new social programs pushed through by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid; Clinton operatives Carville, Begala, Emanuel and Stephanopolis meet secretly to lay out political attack strategies; He is too busy to be bothered with following appropriate protocol in dealing with world leaders –especially our greatest ally, Great Britain; and, Obama appears to be an unaware bystander through it all.

MCV-PAC sees some similarity in Obama’s leadership with great literature:
Alice came to a fork in the road. “Which road do I take?” she asked.
“Where do you want to go?” responded the Cheshire cat.
“I don’t know,” Alice answered.
“Then,” said the cat, “it doesn’t matter.”
~Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

But then, on the other hand, once he does figure out where he wants to go, we may really regret where he leads us with purpose.

Carnahan on “Stimulus”

March 12th, 2009

Last weekend, presumed Democrat candidate for US Senate, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, attempted to dodge the question of whether she would have voted for the  extravagantly wasteful “stimulus” bill as ALL DEMOCRAT SENATORS DID: “I don’t think it was an option to do nothing,” Carnahan said. “People who kept saying no to everything … don’t have a lot of credibility on this stuff.” “I don’t know everything that was in that package,” she said, adding that “something had to be done, and it had to be done quickly.”

MCV-PAC ran the figures, and legislators would have had to read 640 words per minute (that’s almost 2 pages) to know everything that was in the 1071-page stimulus bill within the 10 hours before they had to vote.MCV-PAC wonders, as all responsible Missourians do, whether doing something is better than doing nothing when you admittedly don’t know what you are doing. So, what kind of credibility do Carnahan, Senator McCaskill, or the rest of the Democrat Senate actually have? Can we trust Carnahan to represent OUR best interests when she wouldn’t even bother to slow down the process, preferring to just doing the “something” that was presented by San Francisco and Las Vegas liberals Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
