WHO PAID FOR IT?

February 9th, 2010

shearin-news-press-insert1

Recently, St. Joseph’s Mayor Kenny placed an insert in the St. Joseph News Press to “clarify” his defense of frivolous spending on two downtown projects.  The merits of the projects, the effectiveness of his defense, and the clarity of the insert piece can be debated.  What can’t be debated is that this is a violation of Missouri Ethics laws.

If the advertisement was paid for by the City of St. Joseph, Mayor Kenny needs to fully reimburse the city for the expense of advertising his business.  This is a gross misappropriation of funds and severe lapse in judgment by the Mayor and the city staff.

If this piece was paid for by Mayor Kenny’s campaign committee, it needs to state so on the document.  Failure to state who paid for a political piece is a blatant violation of Missouri Ethics laws.

If this was paid for by Mayor Kenny from his own pocket, it is misleading and illegal.  This is a political piece to defend his position on funding for city projects and therefore should be under the jurisdiction of the Missouri Ethic Commission.

We hope Mayor Kenny will clarify who actually paid for this advertisement in the coming days.  We would hate for the MEC to have to clarify things for him.

Curious Sign

February 9th, 2010

Marxist Billboard

Drivers headed south on I-29 will notice the above billboard located near the Dearborn exit.  The sign is rather curious in that it lists no specific individual, no sponsoring group, and therefore no real indication of intent.

Perhaps the St. Joseph News-Press could treat this sign with as much interest as the did a previous case of a “mysterious” sign: http://www.missourivalues.org/index.php?id=3

Barack Obama Is Not A Hedge Fund Manager

December 31st, 2009

The Treasury Department said on Wednesday it would give $3.8 billion more to GMAC Financial Services and become the majority owner of the auto lender. This is the third round of government bailouts for GMAC bringing the total amount of taxpayer money given to GMAC to $16.3 billion.

This is happening while other lenders rescued by the Treasury have begun to repay their taxpayer bailouts. GMAC appointed Michael A. Carpenter as chief executive just over a month ago. Carpenter is a former Citigroup executive and current director. Good to know that he has experience running failed companies.

MCV-PAC wonders why the government feels the need to attempt to take over failed businesses with taxpayer money instead of allowing taxpayers to keep their money and letting failed businesses fail.

Until last year GMAC was an auto and home lender, last year it was converted to a bank holding company in order to qualify for bailout financing. GMAC is the only bank of the 19 that were subjected to stress tests that were unable to raise sufficient capital from private investors.

MCV-PAC sees this as yet another example of the Obama administration picking the winners and losers instead of giving everyone equal opportunity and letting the market decide who wins and loses.

Barack Obama needs to realize that he is not a hedge fund manager, his job is not to try and find which companies to use taxpayers money to take over, instead he should be working to protect taxpayers money.

Thanksgiving Political Debate Fact Sheet

November 24th, 2009

As we gather together for Thanksgiving, we will likely be faced with political discussions about the affairs of the day with less-than-enlightened friends and family, Herewith, MCV PAC presents a cheat-sheet of fast facts for you to arm yourself for those inevitable knock-down, drag-out battles … er, cordial discussions.

The 9-page fact sheet is presented in a Q&A format as a downloadable PDF file and covers:
* Some Key Info
* Health Care
* National Debt
* Cap and Trade (Carbon Tax and Global Warming)
* Things You Can Do

Look at it …or… download a copy for your own use or handout …or… to file share with others

http://www.missourivalues.org/thanksgiving_fact_sheet_2009.pdf

Bottom line: Analysis shows that your increased tax burden will be from $1300 to $2000 per year. The range depends on whether you are single or married and what forms Cap and Trade, forced healthcare purchases and penalties, and increased national debt/inflation ultimately take. Note that these are taxes that EVERYONE WILL PAY, since many of the taxes will be hidden in goods and services we purchase, or as taxes and fees collected by employers. Remember that the Obama-Biden campaign repeatedly stated that you would not pay one cent more in taxes if you earn less than $250,000 (or $200,000, or $150,000 depending on which speech it was).
Moreover, although allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire is not covered, Bush tax cuts to expire in 2010 will result in the loss of an additional one million jobs!

MCV PAC hopes this arms you for future debates, or at least puts all the facts you need in one convenient document and location. Thank you for all you do to preserve and spread Missouri’s conservative values.

MCV PAC wishes you and your family a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Taxes Pay for “Healthcare Reform”

November 21st, 2009

Below is a list of the tax increases Congress and the Administration have proposed to finance health care reform. This list includes taxes in the bill passed by the House of Representatives, the bill the Senate is currently debating, and other taxes mentioned as a possible way to pay for health care reform. Both house and senate taxes are listed since all are fair game in the final consolidated bill.

  1. An income surtax on taxpayers earning more than $500,000 a year,
  2. An excise tax on high-cost “Cadillac” health insurance plans that cost more than $8,500 a year for individuals or $21,000 for families,
  3. An excise tax on medical devices such as wheelchairs, breast pumps, and syringes used by diabetics for insulin injections,
  4. A cap on the exclusion of employer-provided health insurance without offsetting tax cuts,
  5. A limit on itemized deductions for taxpayers with a top income tax rate greater than 28 percent,
  6. A windfall profits tax on health insurance companies,
  7. A value-added tax, which would tax the value added to a product at each stage of production,
  8. An increase in the Medicare portion of the payroll tax to 3.4 percent for incomes great than $200,000 a year ($250,000 for married filers),
  9. An excise tax on sugar-sweetened beverages including non-diet soda and sports drinks,
  10. Higher taxes on alcoholic beverages including beer, wine, and spirits,
  11. A tax on individuals without acceptable health care coverage of up to 2.5 percent of their adjusted gross income,
  12. A limit on contributions to health savings accounts,
  13. An 8 percent tax on all wages paid by employers that do not provide their employees health insurance that satisfies the requirements defined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services,
  14. A limit on contributions to flexible spending arrangements,
  15. Elimination of the deduction for expenses associated with Medicare Part D subsidies,
  16. An increase in taxes on international businesses,
  17. Elimination of the tax credits paper companies take for biofuels they create in their production process–the so-called “Black Liquor credit,”
  18. Fees on insured and self-insured health plans,
  19. A limit or repeal of the itemized deduction for medical expenses,
  20. A limit on the Qualified Medical Expense definition,
  21. An increase in the payroll taxes on students,
  22. An extension of the Medicare payroll tax to all state and local government employees,
  23. An increase in taxes on hospitals,
  24. An increase in the estate tax,
  25. Increased efforts to close the mythical “tax gap,”
  26. A 5 percent tax on cosmetic surgery and similar procedures such as Botox treatments, tummy tucks, and face lifts,
  27. A tax on drug companies,
  28. An increase in the corporate tax on providers of health insurance, and
  29. A $500,000 deduction limitation for the compensation paid by health insurance companies to their officers, employees, and directors.

MCV PAC believes that instead of rushing through a badly conceived health care bill and raising taxes to pay for it, Congress should focus first on economic recovery by dropping all talk of tax increases and extending permanently the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. That is the only way to increase the incentives to work, save, invest, and take on new economic risk that will pull the economy out of the “Great Recession” and get unemployed Americans back to work.

Threatening the companies and high income earners that create jobs and employ so many of us is not going to instill confidence in our economy, our freedom to work, our investments, or the future of our country.

Missouri GOP exposes cozy relationship between Robin Carnahan and ACORN

October 13th, 2009

Missouri GOP obtains documents exposing cozy relationship between Robin Carnahan and ACORN

The Missouri Republican Party today launched a new web video and website—www.acorncarnahan.com—after obtaining documents that clearly show a close relationship between Robin Carnahan and ACORN.

Despite more than a dozen convictions in Missouri, the submission of tens of thousands of questionable or false voter registration forms, and shocking videos that show the group promoting criminal activities, Robin Carnahan has had ample opportunity to distance herself from ACORN. But during her five years as the state’s highest ranking elections official, Carnahan has never condemned the embattled liberal group.

Although Robin Carnahan has remained silent, the communication between her office and ACORN speaks loud and clear. From meetings in her office, to events, to research, documents obtained by the Missouri Republican Party make it clear that Robin Carnahan and ACORN are too close for comfort.

Among the more than 1,400 pages of documents were startling examples of Carnahan’s friendly relationship with ACORN. A few examples:

  • Michael Slater (Project Vote Executive Director) to Ron Berry (SOS Political Director), 3/15/2007: “We very much appreciate having the ability to share information with y’all.” (view)
  • Michael Slater to Mindy Mazur (SOS Chief of Staff) and Ron Berry, 3/21/2007: “I have a very quick research question… I presume Republicans beat the drum of voter fraud as a rationale for the photo ID law, can you steer me to a source to find a quote providing an example of that?”

Mindy Mazur responds to Michael Slater, 3/21/2007: “There’s one from last year on ‘perception’… ill (sic) see if I can find it.”

Mindy Mazur responds to Michael Slater, 3/21/2007: “I have a few others too… will send shortly.” (view all)

  • Jeff Ordower (Head organizer for ACORN) to Ron Berry, 10/2/2008: “Again, we’ll do an event whenever Robin can make it to St. Louis, though book closing date is best.” (view)
  • Jeff Ordower to Carnahan staff and others after the defeat of the photo id legislation in the Missouri General Assembly, 5/17/2008: “This was a great team effort. Thanks everyone for your help.” (view )

Over the years, Carnahan has maintained close ties with ACORN—furthering their goals and whitewashing the record of corruption and fraud.

In 2006, Carnahan ordered the St. Louis Board of Elections to approve more than 5,000 questionable registrations submitted by ACORN. Earlier this year, she issued a report on the 2008 elections, yet she failed to mention ACORN’s organized effort to commit voter fraud across the state by submitting thousands of fraudulent voter registrations to county election boards in Missouri. ACORN even claimed that Carnahan had been “helpful” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, April 24, 2008) in its lawsuit against the state of Missouri—a lawsuit that ended after the state agreed to pay ACORN $450,000.

Now, ACORN is repaying the favor as part of a liberal coalition funding false attack ads to benefit her campaign for U.S. Senate.

Good News for Conservatives

September 28th, 2009

Missouri Republican Party Chairman David Cole’s Message is Good News for Conservatives

Across the state, Missouri Republicans are on the ascendancy. Following the national trend, we are out-recruiting, out-fundraising, and out-messaging a Democratic Party that controls the White House and boasts super-majorities in Congress. More importantly, we are winning the national debate because we have effectively taken our fight to the local and state levels.

In the St Louis area, several prominent Republicans, including former Senators Norm Coleman (MN) and Jim Talent and Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder turned out this week in support of Ed Martin, who has formed an exploratory committee to challenge Russ Carnahan.

In western Missouri, two strong Republican candidates—Bill Stouffer and Vicky Hartzler—have announced their intention to run for the 4th Congressional seat, and others have expressed interest. One of these Republicans will face Ike Skelton, a long-time Congressman whose recent hard-left voting record and alliance with Nancy Pelosi puts him at odds with the people of his own district.

Roy Blunt , one of the candidates who is seeking to replace retiring GOP Senator Kit Bond, also received some good news this week. Despite a relentless barrage of false attacks from his likely opponent Robin Carnahan and her liberal allies, a recent Rasmussen poll shows the race tied. The poll also shows Missourians frustrated with the direction of the country and supportive of Roy Blunt’s conservative positions on the issues.

This is happening because Missourians understand what is at stake—and we are not willing to turn our lives and livelihoods over to the federal government. By presenting common-sense solutions and demonstrating responsible governance, Republicans are taking our country back.

Health Care for Illegal Immigrants

Health Care for Illegal Immigrants

Our friend Roy Temple at FiredUp! links to the following map on NPR’s website

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=113042669

Roy uses the map to infer that congressional districts represented by Republicans are underinsured.

MCVPAC prefers to infer that a majority of the uninsured seem to be along the southern border where the illegal alien population (who coincidentally happen to be uninsured) tends to reside in large numbers.
