Missouri Republican Party Chairman David Cole’s Message is Good News for Conservatives
Across the state, Missouri Republicans are on the ascendancy. Following the national trend, we are out-recruiting, out-fundraising, and out-messaging a Democratic Party that controls the White House and boasts super-majorities in Congress. More importantly, we are winning the national debate because we have effectively taken our fight to the local and state levels.
In the St Louis area, several prominent Republicans, including former Senators Norm Coleman (MN) and Jim Talent and Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder turned out this week in support of Ed Martin, who has formed an exploratory committee to challenge Russ Carnahan.
In western Missouri, two strong Republican candidates—Bill Stouffer and Vicky Hartzler—have announced their intention to run for the 4th Congressional seat, and others have expressed interest. One of these Republicans will face Ike Skelton, a long-time Congressman whose recent hard-left voting record and alliance with Nancy Pelosi puts him at odds with the people of his own district.
Roy Blunt , one of the candidates who is seeking to replace retiring GOP Senator Kit Bond, also received some good news this week. Despite a relentless barrage of false attacks from his likely opponent Robin Carnahan and her liberal allies, a recent Rasmussen poll shows the race tied. The poll also shows Missourians frustrated with the direction of the country and supportive of Roy Blunt’s conservative positions on the issues.
This is happening because Missourians understand what is at stake—and we are not willing to turn our lives and livelihoods over to the federal government. By presenting common-sense solutions and demonstrating responsible governance, Republicans are taking our country back.

Health Care for Illegal Immigrants
Our friend Roy Temple at FiredUp! links to the following map on NPR’s website
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=113042669
Roy uses the map to infer that congressional districts represented by Republicans are underinsured.
MCVPAC prefers to infer that a majority of the uninsured seem to be along the southern border where the illegal alien population (who coincidentally happen to be uninsured) tends to reside in large numbers.

City Council is Hard of Hearing
The current Mayor and City Council ran on a platform of holding more listening sessions throughout the city. They wanted to convey that they truly cared about the opinions and concerns of those they sought to represent.
In the final full year of their representation, they have only held five City Talk sessions. Five listening sessions doesn’t seem like a council concerned with the issues of the people.
Here is a listing of the City Talk sessions our Council and Mayor have held:
February 19, 2009 - Mitchell Park Plaza
March 26, 2009 - Benton High School
April 23, 2009 - Fraternal Order of Police Lodge
June 18, 2009 - Brookdale Presbyterian Church
September 17, 2009 – East Hills Public Library

Steelman for Senate…In 2012?
With the announcement that Sarah Steelman will not seek the open U.S. Senate seat currently held by Kit Bond, many Missourians speculated that she would seek the 7th Congressional District post currently held by Roy Blunt. Not so, says her political fundraiser Jeff Layman.
So, what does Sarah’s political future hold? MCVPAC speculates a 2012 Senate run against Claire McCaskill.

State Representative Jason Brown will kick off his bid for State Senate next week with stops in Platte and Buchanan Counties.
Brown has been re-elected three times for the Platte City-based 30th House District. He is a veteran of overseas tours in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iraq, and has received a Purple Heart, the Combat Action Badge, and a Bronze Star. He is also a life member of VFW Post 4055.
“As a public servant, small business owner and veteran, I understand the needs of the 34th district,” said Brown. “I have a proven conservative record in Jefferson City. I want to bring that same common sense to the Missouri Senate.”
Brown will continue to fight in the Missouri Legislature to stop tax increases, provide assistance for Missouri small businesses, and to offer veterans the benefits and services they have earned.
“This campaign is the continuation of my record as a leader and a representative of the people who gets results,” said Brown. “I want to go to work every day for Missouri families and the values that we share.”

The latest skirmish in the epic battle of City Manager Vince Capell vs. Mayor Ken Shearin is once again a demonstration of how our city government has not functioned effectively for nearly four years. When laying blame, residents often want to chose a side, which is exactly what Mayor Shearin needs. As long as we the taxpayers focus on the personalities and not the substance, it distracts from this council’s incapability to move this city forward.
Since 2006, the discussion of jobs as the catalyst to moving this city forward seems to be obsolete. Our Mayor has been blinded by his personal vendettas, not leading this city. Instead of creating a vision through a long term plan based on the city’s needs, the Mayor opts to interfere with a minor citation. The Mayor of this city has the function of being the ‘cheerleader’ for our community, not creating deep fissures that make simple objectives seem insurmountable. Rather than bring fresh new people in to lead on boards and commissions, he has recycled the same people with the same, tired ideas.
We as a community seem more focused on avoiding a disaster with our Mayor though his unfiltered rants than we do on success. Since Mayor Shearin took office, St. Joseph has lost jobs, the city’s roads are in far worse condition, and our reputation as a fine city has been tarnished.
Residents of this community need to become involved in our local government before it is too late. An election for our city’s leadership is rapidly approaching. It is then we will have the opportunity to decide how our city needs to move forward. Bill Faulkner has already announced his intentions to run for Mayor at the request of Shearin. Who will step up to challenge him to ensure that we do not have four more years of the same?

Missouri Western State University for many years has featured some of our nation’s most liberal spokespeople in its annual Convocation on Critical Issues event. Sometimes, MWSU has had moderate speakers, such as Colin Powell, to give the impression of impartiality. This year, however, MWSU has completely abandoned all sense of reason and substance. On October 1st, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will deliver a speech titled “Our Environmental Destiny” for the event.
MCVPAC readers are well aware of what an “empty suit” Robert Kennedy Jr. is, displaying hypocrisy at every turn in his “environmental” movement. MCVPAC promises more to follow on this subject as we approach the convocation.
What disturbs MCVPAC this day is that R. Dan Boulware, a local attorney and self ascribed Republican, as a former MWSU regent, stated the following in “Western” (The Magazine for MWSU): “I am pleased that we will for the first time address issues about the environment and its impact on the world and our economy. ” It’s a shame when Republicans become so blinded by the “Kennedy mystique” that they forgo all sense of conservative principles.

Dr. Albright Moving On?
The St. Joseph News-Press reported today that Dr. Jimmy Albright has officially retired from his post as Senior Pastor at Wyatt Park Baptist Church (Read the full story here).
MCVPAC wishes to congratulate Dr. Albright on long and distinguished career serving God and others.
In regards to his retirement becoming effective earlier than the original April 2010 date, Dr. Albright stated, “There’s no controversy. The church has known for a long time this was coming. … It’s just come a little bit faster.” MCVPAC wonders if the reason for an ‘early’ retirement is that he is being courted as potential political candidate in 2010.
